The Tour de France is in full swing and the riders are currently making their way through their 21 stages of the event. The Tour de France is the most watched cycling event in the world this year. It’s certainly been one of the only things we’ve had on TV this week that’s for sure. To celebrate the Tour de France, Halfords are offering you the chance to win a fantastic Boardman SLR bike worth £1799!
As the UK’s leading cyclist and motoring retailer, Halfords is the first place I go to when in need of bicycle accessories. I will be entering this competition myself, although I may have to forfeit the prize to one of the keen cyclists in the family!
I thought I would share with you some facts about the Tour de France, you don’t even have to be a cyclist to appreciate that these are pretty awesome!
* The first race began on 1st July 1903
* Cyclists will drink up to 10 litres of fluid per day – that’s the equivalent to 1.5 bathtubs full per rider per tour!
* The approximate number of calories burned each day by a rider is 8000! That’s 10 roast dinners!
* Last year’s Tour de France winner was Chris Froom
* It is easier to ride behind another rider than in front, you can save 40% of your energy riding in someones slipstream.
