I absolutely love scones. Cheese scones, sweet scones, fruit scones, you name it. What's the fastest cake I hear you say? Scone. When I found out how EASY these were to make I wondered why I wasn't making them every day! The recipe is pretty standard, I've googled and looked in recipe books and they are all fairly similar, so here is my adaptation.
Scones go great with tea, especially this Imperial Earl Grey tea from Quinteassential Teas. I love the packaging this loose leaf tea comes in, it's so classy and vibrant. The box even has a QR code for you to scan which plays a soundtrack to evoke the best mood for brewing and lasts for the duration of the brew time.
So to make 10-12 small scones, you will need:
350g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
80g butter
3 tbsp sugar
175ml milk
First thing's first, heat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Mix together the flour and baking powder then add your butter. Mix with your hands until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs, then stir in the sugar.
Add the milk to your dry mixture and mix well, then roll onto a floured work surface.
Take a circular cutter and cut your scones out. Place them on a baking tray and leave for around 10-12 minutes until risen and golden.
Whilst these are in the oven, brew yourself a delicious cup of tea. This Imperial Earl Grey tea is unlike any other tea I have tried before. The tea comes with some extremely handy disposable tea filters which are really easy to use.
Serve with clotted cream and jam. The question is - Jam or cream first?
